Tim Knight Travels Through Time And Embraces The Present

It's easy to get stuck in the past. . . And fixated on the future. Luckily, comedian Tim Knight has taken these concepts and made them funny!

In 2023, Tim built the world's first fully-operational Time Machine, but bravely decided to destroy it. His Melbourne International Comedy Festival show 'The Time Knife' will reveal why.

“So, 2023 was quite a sad year for me with some personal things going on so in response to that I wanted this show to be as fun and uplifting as possible,” Tim says of the material. “Sometimes comedians will do a kind of sentimental show, but I already did a slower, storytelling show at last year’s MICF! This year I’m just writing a fun and crazy show with as many jokes as possible.”

It's the ultimate masterclass in turning lemons into lemonade, in a conceptual presentation based in reality. 'The Time Knife' features jokes (of course), stories, and poems – all about looking back, looking forward, and among all this, trying to stay present.

“The concept for the show is that I’ve recently returned to the present after spending a lot of time travelling around in my Time Machine in the past. I talk about Ancient Egypt and Medieval Europe, along with stories about my teen years living in the UK. Who knows, maybe even the future version of myself will make an appearance or two,” Tim teases.

In 2021, Tim was a State Finalist in the iconic RAW Comedy competition.

“RAW Comedy was a great experience,” Tim reflects. “I got to do it three times and it was such a vote of confidence to make it through to the Victoria State Final. I met a lot of great comics like Bron Lewis, Prue Blake, He Huang, Laurence Driscoll and a lot more who I’m still friends with today.”

“Not only that, but I got to talk to more established comics like Claire Hooper, Dilruk Jayasinha, and Daniel Connell. My only regret about the experience is deciding not to win.”

Tim presented his debut solo show in 2023. With this, came a lot of pressure – so 2024 marks a new era for the comedian, who is keen to feel a little more comfortable.

“This time, I’m just looking forward to performing my show and having fun seeing as many other shows as I can. I’m really excited to see some of my favourite foreign acts like John Kearns and Viggo Venn return along with home-grown talent like Hannah Camilleri and Noah Szto. There’s a reason comedians call MICF 'Comedy Christmas'!”

Tim Knight plays The Dove Club (Melbourne International Comedy Festival) 28 March-7 April.
