Tim And Eric: Fun, Games And Bodily Fluids Down Under

“There's games and costumes and bodily fluids and it's just a big, silly bunch of nonsense.”

This is how Tim Heidecker describes his and brother-in-comedy Eric Wareheim's live show, Tim and Eric Awesome Australian Tour, Great Job!, which is in town later this month. And if you've ever seen these guys in action, you'd know he's not joking. At all. Their bizarre sketch comedy TV series Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! heavily featured at least two of the above, and Heidecker says the live show won't fall far from the tree.

“It's sort of a live manifestation of the show. There's a lot of things from the show, a lot of songs and characters, but then there's new stuff. It's a big, silly affair. It's all very stupid and hopefully entertaining and we show some stuff that you've never seen before from the show.”

Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! enjoyed five seasons on the Cartoon Network and has spawned a cult-like group of devoted followers around the world, as well as a film: Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie. Despite this, Heidecker said the pair were surprised to learn that their Sydney and Melbourne shows had sold out.

“It's pretty surreal to think that some place so far away gets the same kind of jokes that we get. It's cool. We had no idea that our show was even being played down there and it's great to know that it goes over pretty well. Over the past few years we've heard bits-and-pieces [from Aussie fans], but we were surprised at how well the first shows were selling so we added on second shows.”

The film Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, released earlier this year, follows the two comedians (who play themselves) being given $1 billion to make a movie. They squander the funds and decide to renovate a small-town mall to make it back. The plot sounds innocent enough, but Heidecker and Wareheim manage to put their mark (a unique mix of disturbing and hilarious) firmly on this one.

“It’s definitely not for everybody and we realise that and we’re not trying to please everybody, but our fans – the people that like us – seem to like it and we’ve gotten some new followers from it as well. It’s been pretty fun.”

According to Heidecker, he and Wareheim have a few projects on the back burner for when the tour is finished, including a second movie (their first divided the masses into two solid categories: passionate fanboys and horrified haters, as their work is wont to do) and a new show.

“We have some ideas for another movie. Nothing's officially started just yet. We're gonna come back from Australia, hopefully nice and rested and tanned and with a different perspective on the world, and then get to work. We've got some show ideas that we want to work on a little more seriously.”

And how exactly do they come up with their ideas?

“Sit across from somebody and stare at them until something funny comes out of your mouth.”
