The Laugh Resort – A Chuckle Hut For Hand-Picked Comedians This Fringe World

The Laugh Resort
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

More than 70 top, hand-picked comedians from Australia and around the world take the stage at Perth’s renowned chuckle hut The Laugh Resort throughout the Fringe World 2023 season.

“The last time we hosted a programme of this scale was 2020 and many of these comedians haven’t been here since,” The Laugh Resort Manager Di Star says.

“For WA acts who live elsewhere, or touring comics with an existing or burgeoning fan base here, to reconnect with Perth audiences has been a long time coming and we couldn’t be happier to host these experiences – we just hope audiences are as hungry for the laughs as we are, because we’ve got a whole lot!”

The Laugh Resort’s 2023 Fringe offering is highlighted by local favourite and lauded creator of previous award-winning Hilary Duff-themed shows, Perth’s premier asexual comic Nicola Macri with her Feast Festival hit for linguistics fanatics, ‘Single Entendre’.

One of two PG-rated rarities in a programme that is otherwise M15+, the Club will also host the WA premiere of ‘Bun Runner: The Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Multimedia Comedy Musical’ in which the audience helps determine the story creator Jez Watts tells about some escaped talking rabbits.

From the teen-friendly to the extremely adults-only, ex-Perthling Jez also brings his international cult hit late show back to the venue for two nights only ‘The Nasty Show’, which is always a hot ticket and the place to see the fest’s best comics on their baddest behaviour.

The Laugh Resort’s opening weekend sees the return of a beloved favourite premiering a deeply personal and characteristically oddball tale about losing a testicle in ‘Nick Capper: Hold Me Closer Tiny Cancer’.

Meanwhile, Melbourne-based comic Vincent Tshaka brings WA its first look at his African Aussie takes on life in ‘Australianised’. Not sure what you’re in the mood for? The Laugh Resort offers a curated selection of top local and guest comics each Wednesday of the fest in ‘9 At 9.’ Previous acts include Rove, Dave Callan, Georgie Carroll and Rory Lowe.

The Laugh Resort also hosts two of Fringe’s most popular international storytellers happily sharing their global perspectives on living down under and the concept of home with Britain’s award-winning Gordon Southern and Japan’s fastest-rising comedy export, Takashi Wakasugi.

Kenyan Aussie prodigy and master of stream-of-consciousness comedy Josh Makinda makes a glorious homecoming to Perth after ten years in New York, along with opening act for US star Brian Posehn, Hayden Douglas with his hardcore musical comedy ‘Bipolar Rock & Rolla’ and ‘Ladies Guide To Dude Cinema’ podcast host Bec Charlwood.

The Laugh Resort is the best bits of Fringe World comedy bundled under one roof for a limited season only. From 20 January-19 February.
