Sydney Comedy Festival's sweet 16th birthday is coming up, and what better way to celebrate than a jam-packed festival bill including a massive 220 shows from the very best in international and local comedy acts.

To kick it all off in grandiose style, The Sydney Comedy Festival Gala at the State Theatre will dazzle with the hottest stars and the biggest up-and-comers all under one roof.

In this mammoth one-month festival, comedians from all over the world will come down to Sydney to paint the town 'hilarious'. Some of the international names in this year's line-up include Nicole Byer (USA), Ms Pat (USA), Daniel Sloss (SCO), Adam Kay (UK), David O'Doherty (IRE), Stephen K Amos (UK) and Melanie Bracewell (NZ).

Joining the illustrious international bill will be some household names and homegrown heroes, Dave Hughes, Fiona O'Loughlin, Andrew Hansen, The Umbilical Brothers, Tom Gleeson, Joel Creasey, and Lawrence Mooney.

The festival's smash hit programme FRESH will be returning this year, featuring 11 specially-picked emerging performers. The 'freshest' acts on this year's bill include Kevin Jin, Hot Department, Floyd Alexander-Hunt, and Jamal Abdul.

Sydney Comedy Festival debuts two stand-alone shows in languages other than English. French comedian, Kev Adams performing 'Sois 10 Ans' in French and Lok Tim Chan doing his show 'Jokes And Reality' in Cantonese.

In addition to the beloved Sydney Comedy Festival Gala that will open all of the festivities, the festival also hosts a number of special events including the sell-out Comedy For Kids Gala at the Sydney Town Hall, Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase at five venues across the city, and the ActionAid fundraising Gala Frocking Hilarious.

“A good laugh. That is what I feel this massive, brilliant and irreverent programme promises in 2020,” Festival Director Jorge Menidis says. “We’re looking forward to people coming together for a good night out. Laughter has always been the best medicine; it’s exactly what we need in a time like this.”
