The 2020 Sydney Comedy Festival has been cancelled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A number of acts involved are looking to reschedule their shows for later in the year, and ticketholders will be issued refunds for cancelled performances.

This comes after Brisbane Comedy Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Perth Comedy Festival cancelled their events.

Statement from the festival:

"We would like to thank all the artists, producers, sponsors and staff who have worked tirelessly to prepare the 2020 festival.

"We encourage everyone to follow the advice from the Department of Health during this difficult time."

Sydney Comedy Festival was due to run 20 April-17 May.
