Sara Pascoe Shares Her Success Story

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Multi award-winning UK comedian Sara Pascoe has done a lot of fabulous things, and she's finally doing her first-ever Australian tour: 'Success Story’.

It all began pretty early on for Sara – she was set on being a star from the age of 14. Since then she's toured, sung for a Spice Girl, received critical acclaim for her comedy, gotten married (to an Aussie!), had a baby. . . The list goes on.

She's the star of the BBC2 stand-up special 'Sara Pascoe Live: LadsLadsLads', plus she's the writer and star of BBC2 sitcom 'Out Of Her Mind' and she's written a Sunday Times bestseller called 'Sex Power Money'.

Her new show 'Success Story' is filled with goss, oversharing, and a look at why anyone would want to be famous.

We chat with the woman herself about the show, and what can be expected from it!

Tell us a bit about 'Success Story'.
It’s a show of two halves – reflecting at first on my work, funny run-ins with celebrities, being papped without my consent and men slagging off my feet on the internet. While in the second half, it's jokes and stories about my long and unsexy journey to becoming a parent, IVF, odd times to lactate and why my mum doesn’t want me talking about her on stage any more (blame Baby Spice!)

Why did you want to create a show like this?
I always delve into my own life and failures, so this feels both personal but also celebrating the many mistakes and things that did not go my way. It’s proved relatable for audiences so far in the UK and there’s nothing as satisfying as an audience laughing because they’ve been there too!

How would you describe your style of comedy on the whole?
Confessional – I have no secrets and my material gets updated as soon as my circumstances change. The ‘baby’ I joked about at the beginning of my tour is now a toddler and so the show is constantly being rewritten.

What drew you to the world of stand-up?
It was an accident – I was an out-of-work actor desperate for attention and by a sheer fluke I found the thing I should have been doing all along. I was a terrible actor because I was always ‘myself’, whereas that’s the exact point of stand-up!

When people leave your show, you’d like for them to feel…
Relaxed and happy. I hope they will have enjoyed their evening and laughed a lot and have a little glow for the love in their own lives.
