If you've been single in the past decade, this show is for you.
American comedian Robyn Perkins combines a scientific background with her own life stories in her shows. In 'Mating Selection', those life stories are focused around the themes of love and dating.
“Well, for starters, love is just a drug addiction used to aid in reproduction – it’s not as romantic as Hollywood would portray,” Robyn admits.
'Mating Selection' wonders how social constructs change how we date. Robyn will use comedy and storytelling to explore some complex and uncomfortable territory.
“Evolutionarily, all aspects of love evolved to help us survive as a species. It’s a drug addiction that feels amazing, which frankly, lives up to its hype. Where the research starts to get interesting is the effect of morality on our mating habits.”

Robyn's previous show '10,000 Decisions' won the Sydney Fringe Comedy Award in 2019 and 'Mating Selection' has already received critical acclaim – proving that Robyn knows what she's talking about, even if it's something she's not yet totally clued in on:
“A lot of comedians will say to ‘write about what you know’. But with a research-oriented brain, I will continue to ‘write about what I don’t know’," Robyn explains.
“This year’s subject is dating and morality and the big thing I have learned is that unfortunately, you can’t science your way into love, even if the birds do it.”
“Did you know, even lobsters, who have become a meme of monogamy, don’t actually mate for life? They mate for a couple weeks and then move on to the next partner. . . ’She’s your lobster’ takes on a whole new meaning with that fun fact.”
