Lou Wall

Last year, a clip of Lou Wall performing a musical number about selling a bed on Facebook Marketplace went ridiculously viral online – three separate people sent it to me as I had a somewhat similar experience, and every single time I watched the clip I giggled uncontrollably.

So, you can imagine that I had high expectations when heading to check out Wall’s 2026 offering 'Where Are All The Tall Grandmas?'.

This show left me wondering, “is there a prize for best opening to a show?” Because if there is, Lou Wall might take it out in 2026. And while the gag that kicked things off was truly excellent, thankfully it didn’t peak there, and there was plenty more worth sticking around for in the hour that followed (but dang, it was a fun opening!).

In 2025, Wall was nominated for Most Outstanding Show, and it was easy to see why. This show not only had the crowd giggling throughout (at times gasping for breath) but it also had a lot of heart. It seemed like a silly gag kind of concept– a show searching for tall grandmothers, but this show was much more than that.

And while there certainly were many moments of hilarity throughout, a personal highlight being the old blokes at the RSL, disappointed that there weren’t any women about that night, it was the show’s theme that will stick with me. Being a tall gal myself, the moments in the show that touched on the way that tall women are viewed in society and some of the surprisingly murky history that may have resulted in a lack of tall grandmas kind of hit me in the feels. But that’s what made this show both touching and engaging throughout; the gags (sometimes really bloody silly ones) are beautifully balanced with a narrative throughline that I never expected from a comedy show. And information that I might not have come across in any other setting.

And what a joy that was to experience.

Wall was an affable presence on stage, endearing themselves to the crowd from the get-go. Their impressive singing voice was a surprise, but their goofy humour combined with smart quips was as brilliant as I had anticipated. If you’ve seen Wall’s videos floating about online and are wondering if it’s worth the hype, head along, you won’t be disappointed.
