Jude Perl is just trying to be one of the good ones. And she is – if you consider her phenomenal voice, witty lyrics and sharp comedic timing.
But is she good enough to finish a sentence or have a solid, consistent, unapologetic opinion? That’s what she’s exploring in her new show 'Jude Perl Tries To Finish A Sentence'.
Jude is, as always, consistently impressive in her new offering, delivering a lovely show that builds beautifully as it progresses, taking the audience on a fun journey. The show is built around songs that explore themes of mental health through to our favourite '90s sitcoms, with a massive highlight for the crowd being the catchy tune “Everybody hates you when you love 'Everybody Loves Raymond'”, which left the audience cackling with delight. The great thing about Jude’s shows is that the songs she weaves in add so much value to the narrative that she is building, they aren’t just there for comedic effect – which they certainly do have though!
She is able to use her vocal talent to play with and tease out lyrics at points, having fun and giving the crowd a great laugh from it too.
Throughout the performance we meet various characters – all played with perfection by Jude herself. Never too hammy or silly, even though the characters are at times incredibly chaotic, Jude delivers each one with great flair. Despite darting around some heavy themes and important social commentary about how it feels to be outspoken and to stand for something, nothing about this show ever feels too heavy. Jude is an absolute delight, presenting big ideas in a way that still leaves you glowing and joyful at the end of the performance.
If you’re looking for an impressive bit of musical comedy this festival season, Jude Perl is an excellent choice. You’ll laugh and no doubt want to sing along as she takes you through an impressive repertoire of songs and sketches in a tight hour of delightful entertainment.
