Elouise Eftos is absolutely gorgeous, and she knows it – or at least her over-the-top on stage persona does.
And I can hear you saying “Why is this relevant information? It’s a comedy show, it doesn’t matter what the performer looks like”. Normally I’d agree, but when the show is called 'Australia’s Most Attractive Comedian', it does feel like a necessary inclusion.
Elouise delivers a show that subverts our idea of ‘who’ should be on stage making jokes – she plays with power dynamics, and she stomps all over our Aussie crutch of the tall poppy – all while wearing a pair of heels. It’s fun, tightly delivered and an excellent offering that the crowd absolutely eats up. This show is clever and of course incredibly funny.
After getting attention for online content over recent years, Elouise has built a brand on confidence – erring on cockiness but it’s certainly something that we could all do with a little bit more of. A show that features stand-up, sketches, a bit of singing and dancing and a whole lot of smart commentary, this is the real deal in a display of multifaceted talent. The production value is strong here in this polished second round offering of the show, which she has clearly refined into a top-notch piece of comedy.
Overall, even though there’s a point to be made (you can be hot and funny – duh – and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to shut up) this show is also just a damn good time.
A whole heap of fun is had, while Elouise works her way through the kind of show that we need more of. There’s no self-deprecation to be seen here in the way you might in many shows across the festival. And it’s not without a point – Elouise argues that the negativity isn’t helping anyone – lest of all women collectively. And she isn’t wrong. I’m so excited to see where this show takes her as she tours it across the world, spreading her gospel of sexy comedy to all those who need it.
