The Laugh Resort Comedy Club (est 1991) will open its doors at a brand new location, inside The Shoe Bar & Cafe, in Yagan Square.
The Laugh Resort presented a weekly show in Northbridge for 25 years and is Perth's longest running not-for-profit association run for and by the comedy industry. Shows over the years have included Hughesy, Jim Jefferies, Rove, Claire Hooper, Dave Callan, Sami Shah, Joel Creasey and more.
After a two-year hiatus, Club President Alex Manfrin says the new board of management is pleased to bring back this Perth live comedy institution.
“I overheard The Shoe publican Paul Higgins talking about a new function room,” Alex says. “He’s a good friend of the scene, having hosted comedy in his previous venues, and it was great timing as Laugh Resort had been looking for a new home in the city. So for us, The Shoe was a perfect fit.”
The 100 seat venue will host The Laugh Resort monthly. It's located ideally where Northbridge mets the CBD and will also host its month-long Fringe World programme featuring multiple shows per day by local and touring artists... They're soon to be revealed.
“With a few comedy promoters missing from Fringe this year, we feel well-placed to create a hub for stand-up which gives artists the support and fair deals you’d have hoped they’d been getting all along,” Alex says.
