Western Australia's first entertainment venue purpose-built for live comedy has been given an official opening date.
Comedy Lounge Perth City, upstairs at 413 Murray Street, will open to the public on 23 November with a line-up of local and international stars.
Owner and Operator John McAllister says the venue will present several shows per week all year round, attracting comedians worldwide exclusively to Perth.
“It's been a long time coming but we couldn't be more excited to launch with some of Australia's and the world's best acts,” John says. "I absolutely love the live comedy experience and seeing other people laughing at live comedy and having a good time is a real joy so if I can provide the space and the performers to deliver that, where everyone's having a good time, I'll be happy,” he tells scenestr.
Peter Rowsthorn
The first acts to present at Comedy Lounge are stars of the original UK 'Whose Line Is It Anyway' in 'The Steve Frost Improv AllStars' featuring cast members of 'Blackadder' and 'The Young Ones'.
Peter Rowsthorn of 'Kath & Kim' will visit at the end of December as the second opening act for the venue and a host of events (such as 'Six In The City', 'Live Laughs', 'DIVAS All Male Revue' and 'Pirate Church Tonight' will continue as regulars.
The $3 million venue is complete with state-of-the-art interiors, sound, lighting and stage design meaning each one of the venue's seats is no more than a stone's throw from the stage.
“We can't wait for people to come down our laneway and upstairs to discover what a premium experience the new home of Perth comedy will bring,” John McAllister says.
