A show that centres on a gripping tale with more twists and turns than you can count on two hands, Michelle Brasier's 'Reform' offers an hour of non-stop entertainment.
A brilliant (true) story about lies and deceit but above all, empathy, only made better with added singing, hilariously saucy dancing, and mountains of laughs thanks to Michelle Brasier’s excellent delivery of this wild experience.
Scams are hot fodder for content these days – Anna Delvey, Simon Leviev and Elizabeth Holmes are all (internet) famous names thanks to their stories recently being added to streaming services, but now Melbourne International Comedy Festival has its own name to add to that list: Jacob. In 2020, Michelle Brasier was scammed online by a man named Jacob as she attempted to purchase a pilates reformer and, while it sounds awful to say without context, thank goodness she was, because that event resulted in her creating this bloody brilliant show, an exceptional silver lining to what sounds like a bit of a stressful experience.
Backed by a full band, 'Reform' features plenty of tunes that help to build the story of this epic scammer, and which allow Michelle to blow the roof off with her incredible vocals and witty lyrics. The repeated references to the 'Fast & Furious' franchise (one of the best franchises ever created, obviously) are a fun treat, among others, that provide plenty of laughs in the way that fans of Michelle Brasier have come to love. Quick on her toes and full of energy, there are parts of the show that Michelle has clearly only added in on the night – but the only way to tell is that her band are laughing honestly and truthfully having only just heard the joke – but as an audience member you wouldn’t have otherwise known; the production and delivery is so slick and smooth, it all seems super tight. But knowing that there’s a little something that only this crowd will get to experience – that’s the magic of live comedy and all the more fun!
This is a fun show that will have you engrossed from start to end, and we’re blessed to have Michelle Brasier guiding us through this insane ordeal because she helps to make it a rollicking good – and heckin’ wild – ride.
