Those lucky enough to see Laura Davis at the 2022 Melbourne International Comedy Festival are treated to a fiery performance proclaiming the end is nigh – and what a terrific time it is.
But, as Laura points out, comments were made about the show pointing out all the problems of the world yet offering no solutions, so this year, they promise the show will provide answers, hope and uplifting energy for the audience to take out into the world – the big scary world. Of course, as with many of their comments, this one must be taken with a grain of salt.
For those who have loved Laura’s previous shows, there is nothing to worry about; the energetic, sharp and delightfully chaotic truth-teller you’ve enjoyed in years gone by is still in there. Newcomers, you are certainly in for a treat, but the question must be asked – why have you waited until now to see this incredible performer?!
Seeing a Laura Davis show is like letting the wild rants of your smartest funniest friend wash over you, but while smiling from ear to ear. Without a doubt, there were some solid snort laughs from across the crowd every few minutes – the kind that can only be achieved by a comic who has expertly perfected their craft. You’ll be surprised when the show comes to an end – even though they pack more words into 50 minutes than most comics could ever manage, you’ll be wishing that the time with Laura could never come to an end.
2022’s show, 'If This Is It' received a nomination for Most Outstanding Show and 'Well Don’t Just Stand There Dancing' could be even better. While it’s early days for the show, it’s clear that this is yet another phenomenal piece of work from an absolute powerhouse performer and writer and with each performance the show will go from strength to strength. Get there before everyone (including the Australian Federal Police) are in on the secret.
