Isn't it time we all had a bit of fun?

Kirsty Webeck reckons so. In her aptly-named show 'A Bit Of Fun' this comedy festival season, Kirsty brings an upbeat hour where she's bursting to share everything she's learned and show off how she's changed.

She's hitting the stage fresh from her debut comedy special for Paramount+. . . And she's made a bunch of self-improvements and been the victim of a subpar prank.

It's time to feel good – something that Kirsty is notorious for helping her audiences with – in 'A Bit Of Fun'. But do you know what else is a bit of fun? Bodyboarding. Here, Kirsty lists five of the best things that can happen to you while you're bodyboarding.

One

It’s a beautiful day out in the water, the conditions are incredible, perfect wave after perfect wave keeps pushing you into the shore and there is barely anyone else at the beach! There’s no one to steer around, no shrieking disrupting the serenity, you just get to have a glorious, joyous time. There are a few people around of course. You don’t want NO ONE at the beach. You can’t be the shark’s only option.

Two

You stumble upon some majestic sea creatures. My aquatic animal encounter of choice while bodyboarding? A pod of dolphins, please! This has happened to me several times and the risk you run when this happens is that everything else that happens in your life from that point forward is rubbish. Nothing will ever compare. You know that awful feeling you’d have the day after your birthday when you were a child? After you’ve bodyboarded with a pod of dolphins, the whole rest of your life is just that post-birthday comedown feeling.

Three

You find money in the water. This has genuinely happened to me. When I was a child I was incredibly lucky. I used to win all the competitions at the school fete. I was so lucky that relatives used to get me to help them choose their lottery numbers (my luck didn’t quite extend this far – there were no major wins). On a family holiday once, my sisters and I were bodyboarding and when I emerged from the water there was a $10 note stuck to my leg. It was the absolute best. I was about 10, so $10 was the equivalent of finding $1,000 now.

Four

After a few hours in the ocean, taking in salty water every time you beam with delight, you head up to the carpark, board in hand and THE ICE CREAM TRUCK IS THERE. This is akin to winning the lottery. One soft serve dipped in chocolate and covered in nuts is enough to cleanse the palate after a wonderful time bobbing about in the sun. If you’re lucky enough to be at the beach with me, I’ve probably emerged from the waves with money stuck to me, so the ice creams are my shout.

Five

You make some ocean friends. Last time I was bodyboarding in Lorne, I went to this great beach a few days in a row. Each day there was this legend out in the water surfing. We became immediate friends and would gleefully shout out “Yeeeeeeewwwwwww” to each other whenever we caught a wave. It’s the best having a new damp, salty mate to enjoy the waves with.
