Kingston Butter Factory is laying on the laughs this October/November.
Why not get up and have a go? The venue's final open mic night for 2025 is approaching, and it's the perfect opportunity for local funny folk to enter the spotlight.
Have you got what it takes? Give it a shot. . . And if you're just keen on some laughs, take a seat in the crowd and soak up the LOLs, knowing you're directly supporting local and emerging comedians.
Then, a little further down the track, is 'Comedy @ The Butter Factory', headlined by the incomparable Nikki Britton and featuring a stellar line-up of stars. . . Including the stand-out act from the open mic event.
Emcee for the open mic event is fresh new comedy talent Rachael Hornbuckle. Here, we speak to Rachael about taking on the role, and what comedy means to her.
What are you looking forward to about MCing an event like this?
I absolutely love this space, it’s perfect for a comedy theatre and I especially love the Brisbane comedy scene.
Have you ever played this role for a comedy event before? What’s the biggest challenge in it?
I’ve emceed many comedy events before, it's not so much a challenge but you definitely want to make sure you keep the night roaring and the crowd having fun the whole way through!
How did you get your start in comedy?
I started about four years ago!
What drew you to that world?
I actually started when I lived overseas and went to a comedy show, I thought, this doesn’t look too hard, little did I know I was watching an open mic show! I love the relationship between the audience and the comic and the push and pull of it.

Why are Comedy Open Mic Nights so important?
Open mics are so important for comics because they give us a opportunity to try new material and relax a little bit, have fun, not have too much pressure.
Why is The Butter Factory such a good place for a Comedy Open Mic Night?
I love the set up of this room, and the different crowds that attend it. It’s particularly close to me as last time I played, that night I got told I made it into Comedy Zone 2025.
For those a little hesitant, what words of advice would you give them about entering?
If it’s bad or good, it’ll still be over in five minutes.
'Comedy Open Mic Night #3' is on at Kingston Butter Factory 24 October. 'Comedy @ The Butter Factory' takes place on 8 November.
