Imagine if 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' did a musical. Well that's exactly what the 'Impromptunes' team have done. Introducing: 'The Completely Improvised Musical'.
'Impromptunes is a professional musical theatre improvisation troupe who combine the mischief of improvisation with the magic of musical theatre in full-length productions. Each show is completely improvised, based on a single audience suggestion: all of the music, dialogue, songs and dance routines are completely made up on the spot. With no time for discussion between the performers, the show is dangerous, fast paced and exciting!

“Every element of the show is improvised by the cast – the music, the story, the dialogue... even the dancing! Audience members will be sitting on the edge of their seats in anticipation of what is coming next. Watching Impromptunes is a unique theatrical experience. You'll come away singing songs that didn't exist before the show,” the performers say.

Previous off-the-cuff stories range from The Fairy Floss Brawl, The Beer Drinker, Eels In The Desert and everything in between, so it's easy to see just how excitingly random these stories can be. The only limits are those of the audience's imagination.
The hugely talented ensemble, lead by Emmet Nichols, comes from a variety of backgrounds, including: WAAPA, VCA, Impro Melbourne, Showfit, The Improv Conspiracy, Spontaneous Broadway and The Big HOO-HAA! Together they have performed the show at Melbourne Fringe Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Perth Fringe World, and have received numerous nominations for Best Comedy.
After the huge success at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2014, the team look forward to inspiring and entertaining even more crowds this year.
It's unrehearsed. It’s hilarious. It’s a whole lot of fun. It’s 'Impromptunes'.
'Impromptunes: The Completely Improvised Musical' plays Melbourne International Comedy Festival at Trades Hall, 26 March – 19 April.
