Helen Bauer

The UK's Helen Bauer has made a name for herself as a comedy powerhouse, and is playing around Australia as part of the 2026 comedy festival circuit.

She's an award-winning comedian who has been seen across the likes of 'Live At The Apollo', '8 Out Of 10 Cats', 'Am I Being Unreasonable', and 'Extraordinary’.

Helen is struggling – and being forced to hang with someone she doesn't like. . . And who doesn't like her. Not the best position to be in: tense, uncomfortable, and they won't leave!

Intrigued? We sit down with Helen to learn more about her show 'Bless Her'.

Tell us about your style of comedy.

It is the best style of comedy of course. When I say that you must be thinking 'Well if it is the best then define it?' Fine I will. It's a perfect swirl of too much and too little and just enough. It is not dead pan but one day who knows.

Your show bio is intriguing. Who have you been forced to hang out with (or is it a secret)?

I want to tell you sooooo bad but I can't put it in print. I SIMPLY MUST NOT PUT IT IN PRINT. She may sue me and I cannot handle that. I CANNOT.

What drew you to comedy initially?

The dudes of course. I was trying so desperately to reinvent myself as a 'guy's girl' and stand-up felt like the best way to do that. AND I WAS RIGHT and have zero regrets. That is the main one and secondly to be honest I had nothing else going for me.

What about stand-up (in front of an audience). What’s your favourite thing about it?

Stand-up is the most magical thing and I could not love it more. Everything about being on stage is so magical, where do I start. It is everyone together in a room wanting to laugh and have a good time, the feeling of a room ready to have fun together and just be present. You can say anything and connect with people in a way it can be hard to do over a coffee.

If you could have dinner with three comedians, who would you choose and why?

Okay, now we are asking. I am about to ruin my 'guy's girl' rep I have crafted. Lou Sanders makes me lose my mind with laughter, Rose Johnson is just stupid funny it hurts my bones and please let me have another Rose because not only is Rose Matafeo one of the funniest people in the world but she knows her food and I want her to pick where we are eating so I don't have to be responsible for that.

Helen Bauer plays Brisbane Powerhouse (Brisbane Comedy Festival) 17 April and The Comedy Store (Sydney Comedy Festival) 18-19 April.
