Presented by ActionAid and Brisbane Comedy Festival, 'Frocking Hilarious' brought together women of all walks of life for an afternoon of laughter in support of women living in poverty.
Hosted by legendary Claire Hooper, 'Frocking Hilarious' returned to Brisbane after sell-out shows in both Melbourne and Sydney, and featured some of the best female comedians in the world. The afternoon had a great buzz around it, as friendship groups, gal pals and the occasional obligated partner made their way into Brisbane Powerhouse.
Featuring the likes of Mel Buttle, The Travelling Sisters, Jude Perl, Chris Ryan, Lauren Bonner, and Gillian English, the afternoon consisted of fits of laughter as they chatted about all things women, from dating and sex, to the unmentionable dilemmas that occur during ‘that time of the month’. We were also graced with the musical talent of Jude Perl as she enlightened us about how different, yet very very similar we all are, and the hilarious acrobatics of the Travelling Sisters as they truly put on a show like no other. All seven performances were not only a great insight into each of their individual shows (all available during the Brisbane Comedy Festival), but also a great attraction for the overarching reason behind the show: raising money for ActionAid.
An initiative of ActionAid, 'Frocking Hilarious' has been running for eight years in Melbourne, Sydney and now Brisbane, and is an afternoon/evening that is full of laughs for the purpose of raising funds and awareness for women’s rights in more than 45 countries globally.
ActionAid represents a movement of women standing together to claim their human rights and campaign against injustice. These women are brave, resilient and, in spite of their struggles, often draw on the strength of laughter. Let’s laugh with them! It’ll be Frocking Hilarious!
