Actress, comedian and television personality Mary Coustas is hitting the road this March-May with two shows – one especially for Melbourne and the other hitting Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.
The first is ‘This Is Personal’, a show which enjoyed a successful premiere at Sydney Opera House and an avalanche of critical acclaim on a national tour. It’s an insight into Mary, as she addresses questions from her daughter, reflecting on what she can offer from her own life experience.
Audiences are introduced to characters from Mary’s family, who have shaped her life.
“This show gives me the freedom to discuss the themes we all face in this life – race, gender, belonging, and freedom of expression,” Mary says. “Now, I feel I am ready to tackle these issues of the human condition as Mary. To step away from the puppet and expose the puppeteer.”
Speaking of characters, the next show – hitting festivals around the country – is ‘Upyourselfness’, starring Mary’s malapropism-prone alter ego Effie. This one invites audiences to tackle the hard questions, and find a way to define themselves through humanity’s ongoing identity crisis. . . The Greek way: with healthy debate.
Themes of politics and human evolution run rampant in this chaotic, hilarious presentation, and it’s hitting Yarraville, Adelaide Fringe, Sydney Comedy Festival and Brisbane Comedy Festival from March until May.
Tickets to both shows are on sale now.
