Dawn Of The Planet Of The French: 30 Million Minutes

Dawn French
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Dawn French has done quite a bit with the thirty million minutes she's been alive.

From her widely acclaimed sketch comedy show 'French & Saunders,' to her leading role in 'The Vicar Of Dibley,' a successful career as a novelist and even a stint judging 'Australia's Got Talent', Australian audiences can't get enough of her. That's why she's packed up her critically acclaimed British stage show and is bringing it to our shores. In '30 Million Minutes,' Dawn takes us on a journey through her life and the lessons she's learnt in her attempts to become a fully functioning female member of society.

Dawn says she is “sick with excitement about this solo tour.” Described as “somewhere between a monologue, a play, and an autobiographical slide show with a few funnies thrown in. At last, I have had one of my three genie wishes granted, which is to work with Michael Grandage. The other two wishes are as yet unfulfilled. They are secret obviously, but suffice to say, one is about Barack Obama in Speedos. The other is about me in speedos, with cheesecake involved… Enough said.” Touring around the country from January through to March, French will bring her shrewd comical  observations to audiences in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Dawn French1Having lived an life filled with an “extraordinary lack of willpower, combined with an enviable knack for nosey parking and showing off,” this show combines 30 million minutes of comedic observations into an autobiographical powerhouse. Critics have praised the show as a “A life-affirming phenomenon” filled with “searing emotional honesty.” The show “consists of various delights and riches, with the odd irksome tribulation thrown in, as Dawn takes audiences through the various lessons life has taught her, and the things she knows for sure.”

Thirty million minutes is a long time, and Dawn French knows this, so see this British comedy icon before she goes, in her own words, “far too doolally to perform it.”
