Comedian, writer and actor Danielle Walker has a lady in her head.

The award-winner who took home the top prize at RAW Comedy back in 2016, is bringing 'The Lady Upstairs' to Adelaide Fringe. She's been on 'Thank God You're Here', 'Spicks & Specks', and even won Australia's iteration of 'Taskmaster'!

It's Danielle’s first time at Adelaide Fringe, as she presents her stand-up show ‘The Lady Upstairs’.

We had a chat to Danielle to talk all things comedy, the festival, and how she formulates a show.

What’s the lady in your head looking forward to most about Adelaide Fringe?
I’ve never been to the Adelaide Fringe but I’ve heard there’s fire twirlers? so I’m looking forward to making one of those fire danger rating signs and quizzing them on the day's ratings. Also doing my show!

What are you going to be presenting to audiences in this show?
NO SPOILERS! Mostly jokes and stories but there will be images and videos too.

For those unfamiliar, describe your style of comedy.
I think I’m normal, I think I do relatable comedy for normal, regular, everyday people, but once a reviewer described what I do as “Transgressive character comedy”. So I guess that’s up for interpretation.

How do you formulate a full show – where do you begin?
A core premise, then I figure it out from there.

You won ’Taskmaster Australia’ season one! How did that feel?
It was fun! I’m such a massive fan of the UK series, I was so excited they were bringing it to Australia, I love having Tom Gleeson's gold head in my apartment.

You’ve also won a few awards at MICF. What does this kind of validation for your stand-up mean to you?
It’s nice to work hard on something and have people like it. Also I think my parents like it because they have something tangible to point to when people ask how I’m going.

You started out there, winning RAW Comedy in 2016. What got you into the world of comedy?
My cousins told me I should do it, and I was 22 when I started doing stand-up so my brain hadn’t formed fully yet.

Why do you think it’s such an effective art form?
Have you seen 'Mr Bean'? Need I say more?

Danielle Walker plays Spiegel Zelt at The Garden of Unearthly Delights (Adelaide Fringe) 11-17 March.
