Acclaimed stand-up and winner of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2025 Piece Of Wood Award, Daniel Connell, is back.
He's bringing his brand-new show 'Prairie Dog' around the country. You might have seen Daniel on the Gala, or perhaps on Channel Ten's 'Have You Been Paying Attention?'.
It's a brand-new hour of material, and Daniel will be doing all the talking. All that's required of you, as an audience member, is to sit there and watch. Pretty sweet deal, right?
Ahead of his 'Prairie Dog' tour dates, Daniel is reminiscing on some good times – in particular some memorable birthday celebrations he's been lucky enough to attend. Here are his top five.
Five
Damon's 8th. I was 8 years old and Damon invited me to his birthday at the Batemans Bay Mini Golf. A great day until his older brother Trent threw his putter onto the clubhouse roof, the owner kicked the party out, and we had to have his cake in the park across the road. It was the first time I had ice-cream cake, I was high for days.
Four
James' 21st. My mate James' 21st was one to remember. It was in a big shed on the outskirts of town. The dance floor was great and the song selection was superb, Shania Twain featured heavily. The night was marred when the old farmer from next door set the shed on fire because apparently hearing 'Man, I Feel Like A Woman' 15 times sent him over the edge. A great night.
Three
Sandra's 21st. My ex-girlfriend Sandra had a great party at the local Bowling Club, hats off to her for still inviting me as we'd split up a month before the party. The night was a success until Sandra opened her presents, my gift didn't go down well. I gifted her 5 DVDs she'd lent me when we were together. A lovely night.
Two
Pat's 30th. I didn't know Pat, but I was invited to do some stand-up at his 30th in Albury. The party was going to the races, then meeting me at a local club so I could do my 30-minute set. Pat and his crew got so drunk at the races they didn't make it to the club for my performance. I still got paid in full. A fantastic result.
One
Mick's 50th.When I was 23 my mate's dad Mick had his 50th birthday at a local pub. There was karaoke, dancing and lots of shenanigans. Mick took centre stage to do his party trick which involved him setting his chest hairs on fire, Mick forgot he'd spilled some vodka on his chest 20 minutes earlier and lit up like a Christmas tree. Fire brigade and ambulance called, party over. It was the second time I had ice-cream cake, a ripper night.
