Comedian Emily Tresidder Tells Us Where She Went

Emily Tresidder
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

She was here, and then she wasn't. Comedian and radio presenter Emily Tresidder took a two-year hiatus from comedy, but she's back, baby!

Emily's aptly named show 'Where'd You Go?' tracks the ups and downs of Emily's experiences in comedy, and the adventures she went on when she wasn't doing it anymore. She's already had the chance to hit the stage this year.

“It’s cliche but you know how they say you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone? That’s kind of what’s happened with me and comedy,” Emily says. “Performing this show at Adelaide and Perth Fringes has been such a lovely experience. I love the feeling of connecting with audiences and having a unique experience with each and every crowd. No two shows are ever the exact same and that’s an exciting feeling.”

'Where'd You Go?' is filled with all the feel-good vibes of rediscovering self-acceptance and empowerment, where Emily is sure audiences will have a meaningful time.

“This show is an adventure for audiences. We go through ups and downs and at the end we end up feeling hopeful, driven and joyous,” Emily says. “It's infectiously funny, unique and entertaining.”

She's looking forward to hitting the Melbourne stage again in 2023.

“I’m excited to be back at MICF, and thrilled with this show,” she says. “It’s been the best received show critically and among audiences I’ve ever performed. I’m also looking forward to seeing a bunch of awesome shows, and experiencing the city come to life with comedy, for the first time properly in years.”

Even after performing sold-out shows for years, Emily experienced a battle with self-doubt, before throwing in the towel and going on hiatus. But, as with so many of life's moments, she believes the step away from comedy taught her to embrace it more than she ever had before.

“The hiatus was important because I refuelled my passion for comedy, and that wouldn’t have happened without taking a step back,” Emily says.

Emily Tresidder plays Trades Hall - Old Council Chamber (Melbourne International Comedy Festival) 10-23 April.
