Cameron James Review @ Brisbane Comedy Festival 2018

Cameron James
Luisa is a travel, food and entertainment writer who will try just about anything. With a deep love of culture, she can be found either at the airport, at QPAC, or anywhere serving a frosty chilli margarita.

Cameron James is a comedy 'everyman': there’s no shtick, there are no gimmicks, just damn funny jokes about every day situations that every single audience member can relate to. Go see him, now.

Cameron James is really easy to watch on stage. He makes being up there, in a spotlight, in front of many, many people seem like a piece of cake. It’s natural. He is incredibly laid-back, and relatable, kind of like your best friend. Except much funnier.

Cameron is turning 30, and it’s time to grow up. At least, some of his most hardcore, messy friends are making a go of it, so Cameron probably should too. This show takes us on an observational journey about turning into an adult, dating, stalking people on Facebook, and basically figuring out which situations in an adult world you need to fire up for, and when you need to chill out.

This is a really feel-good show. It’s not cheesy at all, but every audience member had a smile on their face as they filed out of the Powerhouse’s Rooftop Terrace. The smile just got bigger when Cameron was suddenly there, like a pop-up pixie, waiting to shake everyone’s hand.

There is some swearing, a little bit of crudeness (the reluctant sex life of pandas, mainly) but nothing that you’d be cautious about taking a date to, or your mum. The comedy is great – really laugh-out-loud – and you’ll still be smiling as you Uber home.
