Cait Johnson Is More Than Qualified To Make You Laugh

Cait Johnson
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Cait Johnson thinks she's pretty well-equipped for the position of 'comedian' at this year's Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

She's got the skills and experience to prove it, she's worked as a writer on 'Hard Quiz', 'The Weekly' and 'Tomorrow Tonight' on ABC, plus Audible's 'The Time Traveller's Guide To Not Dying'.

Cait tells us a little bit about her show 'Kind Regards'.

“'Kind Regards' is all about work! Finding meaning in it and finding meaning without it. I made the unfortunate decision to quit a stable job immediately before the world of work changed forever and this show is an attempt to justify that decision,” she says.

“My last show in 2019 was all about being a lawyer and being forced to choose between the law and comedy as a career. This show is almost the exact opposite of that, prompting an even scarier question – what happens when you don’t have a choice? The answer may surprise you! (casual labour).”

Cait's played bars, clubs, bistro floors and even a Schnitz. There's plenty to get amped for when it comes to playing Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF), but there's one thing in particular that Cait is setting her sights on.

“The thing I'm most looking forward to in performing at MICF is finally being able to claim my Kensington Wireless PowerPoint presenter as a tax deduction! I strolled into JB-HiFi one day last year and, overwhelmed by the aggressive signage, purchased the Kensington Wireless PowerPoint presenter on a whim,” Cait describes. “Given this show uses PowerPoint, I finally get to use it for real. I'm very excited to connect with audiences using this innovative medium. Also,” she adds, “I love comedy.”

“I honestly just hope the audience doesn't heckle me. It's not for me and I'm not good at handling it. If an audience member is looking for a show along the lines of a 'Comedian destroys heckler' YouTube video, this show will not meet their needs.

“If, however, an audience member is looking for a show more along the lines of 'Comedian politely addresses heckler and makes emotional breakthrough', I may be able to assist. I just want the audience to have a good time and, if the mood calls for it, make an emotional breakthrough.”

Cait Johnson plays Coopers Inn (Melbourne International Comedy Festival) from 12-17 April.
