Brodi Snook Lets Go And Moves Forward In Waylaid

Brodi Snook
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Two-time RAW Comedy state finalist and Chortle Best Newcomer 2020 award-winner Brodi Snook presents her fifth solo show, 'Waylaid’.

Sometimes, you just need to let things happen. In 'Waylaid', Brodi Snook is doing just that, because after a pandemic and some natural disasters, you start to realise not everything is within our control.

Throwback: Brodi lists five ways to avoid being productive as part of scenestr's 'The Blender'.

In 2019, Brodi debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe with 'Handful'. It managed to hit the UK Telegraph's list of Best Comedy Shows, and was even named in their Top 40 Jokes of the festival. Brodi's also on the writing team for Australian sketch comedy series 'Kinne Tonight'.

Now, she's back with her new solo show 'Waylaid' .

Here, Brodi Snook gives us the lowdown on her new material before she hits Sydney Comedy Festival.

What’s going on in ‘Waylaid’?
‘Waylaid’ is a show about how a fall from grace can sometimes land you in the right place. Featuring jokes about blow jobs, obviously.

What made you decide to write this show?
I feel like all of our lives have been waylaid in some capacity during the last two years. A lot of what we hoped, built, dreamt and assumed came crashing down around us as we day drank and binge-watched 'Tiger King' in our underwear. The show is my story about trying to let go of what was in store pre-pandemic, and instead accepting being railroaded with grace (and mostly, disgrace). Plus, I’ve been trapped in my mum’s house in country Western Australia for two years; the very least I could emerge with is a new hour of comedy.

And what’s the ideal reaction (aside from, of course, laughter) to this new material?
For everyone who buys a ticket to convince 80-100 of their closest friends to also buy a ticket.

How would you describe your style of comedy for any Brodi Snook newbies?
Razor-sharp cerebral filth with an ever-excellent pre-show playlist.

What are you most looking forward to about presenting ‘Waylaid’ to audiences this year?
This is my fifth solo show and is by far the most enjoyable to perform. But mainly, I’m just thrilled to be out of mum’s spare room and back on the road doing comedy.

Brodi Snook plays Factory Theatre (Sydney Comedy Festival) 28 April-1 May.
