Brisburned At Home Review @ Brisbane Comedy Festival 2020

'Brisburned At Home'
Gabbi has watched Brisbane's comedy, film and arts scene thrive since joining scenestr in 2015. Catch her at the Powerhouse with a G&T in hand any day of the week.

Following the highly successful 'Brisburned At Work' and 'Brisburned Original', Mark Lombard is back with the best instalment of 'Brisburned' yet.

If you’re looking for a sketch show to watch at the Brisbane Comedy Festival that hits close to home and will make you laugh until your sides hurt, Brisburned At Home is the show you need to see at this year’s Brisbane Comedy Festival. Comedian and writer, Mark Lombard, is back with his 'Brisburned' team (and complete with their ‘Make Brisbane Great For Once’ merch) at this year’s Brisbane Comedy Festival with their third installment of the Brisburned franchise, and honestly the best one yet.

Unlike the previous years, 'Brisburned At Home' hones in on families, local exasperations, and life in the suburbs, as they satirically bring to light things that Brisbanites have been trying to hide for years (here’s looking at you, infamous Go Card machines). Mark, joined by James (the musical extraordinaire), Michael, Liz and Liz, you’ll be reminded of the art of Briving (Brisbane Driving), you’ll laugh along to Michael’s bush poetry about sports (but not the sports you’re used to hearing about in this type of poetry), and you’ll sit in on a classic conversation between two private school mums and their naughty addiction to Timmy Tams.

With merely seconds between acts to catch your breath, the sketch hilariously rubs salt into Brisbane-shaped wounds, as you’re reminded of Saturday morning sleep-ins interrupted by the leaf blower outside your window, and the never-ending pain of choosing between smashed avo and owning a house. And you can’t have a sketch about Brisbane without featuring an episode of 'Getaway' focusing on our niche, suburban craft beer breweries, and the tragic loss of Sizzler and our highly functional tram system.

If you have a love/hate relationship with Brisbane, 'Brisburned' is the only show you need to see this year, however don’t bring your interstate relatives – they just won’t understand.
