Brisbane’s about to get a whole lot funnier.
Big Fork Theatre are set to open a new training and performance space in Fortitude Valley, having spent the last six years building itself and producing weekly sell-out shows and acclaimed festival productions. Big Fork also have a hugely popular training programme, and now, they finally have a venue to call their own.
“Building an actual theatre space has been our goal since day one and now it’s a reality,” Big Fork Theatre Director Chris Martin says.
Nearly two years were spent searching the nooks and crannies of Brisbane, until the company finally came across an office space that fit the bill.
“We weren’t inspired by the online pictures, but when we saw it in person it had so much potential, as well as some pretty spectacular views. We fell in love with it immediately,” Chris continues. “This is going to be a dedicated comedy theatre. There’s going to be stand-up, improv, sketch, experimental late night shows, and of course a world-class comedy training programme.”
After a magical transformation, the office space now boasts a classroom, lobby and bar, plus of course, a 100-seat theatre built just for comedy.
To celebrate this new chapter of Big Fork, the company is throwing a huge grand opening weekend, The Big Weekend, featuring talented Brisbane comedians performing in a variety of comedy shows.
“This is going to be epic! We wanted to put together a small selection of our favourite shows for the grand opening weekend and I think this program really reflects the best of Big Fork Theatre.”
The Big Weekend runs at Big Fork Theatre (Suite 2, Lvl 2, 252 St Pauls Terrace, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane) 21-23 April.
