After a huge first acts release in late 2022, the full line-up for the 2023 iteration of Brisbane Comedy Festival has landed.
A five-week LOL-fest is set to take over the city across more than 350 gigs by more than 110 comedians including an influx of major international acts and returning fan favourites.
Visiting headliners include comedy master Danny Bhoy, Northern Ireland comedy colossus Micky Bartlett, Malaysian mischief-maker Jason Long, Irish actor/comedian Ed Byrne, Glasgow millennial Larry Dean, keyboard prince David O’Doherty, award-winning Alfie Brown, British TV personality/podcaster Ed Gamble, BBC regular Sara Pascoe, social media maven and comic Chris Parker and the ‘maracas from Caracas’ Ivan Aristeguieta.
From down under there’s three-man singing jokesters Tripod, content creator Nat’s What I Reckon, stream of consciousness comedy master Ross Noble, physical comedy masters The Umbilical Brothers, stand-up legend Akmal, TV personalities Rhys Nicholson, Wil Anderson, Peter Helliar, Tommy Little and Rove McManus, ‘Have You Been Paying Attention?’ regulars Anne Edmonds and Lloyd Langford, radio funny man Dave Hughes, former accountant Dilruk Jayasinha, and 2021 Melbourne International Comedy Festival winner Geraldine Hickey alongside Aussie import Jimeoin.
Plus, there’ll be number of theatre and musical comedy experiences. The likes of homegrown cult hit ‘Two Man Tarantino’, organ king Barry Morgan, satirist Sammy J, the return of ‘Sh!t-Faced Shakespeare’, improvised whodunnit ‘Murder Village’, and an evening with corporate ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ queen Karen From Finance.
“It’s true that laughter is the best medicine and live comedy has proven to be the preferred antidote to recent woes,” Festival Director Phoebe Meredith says.
“Brisbane Comedy Festival continues to grow from strength to strength, pulling record crowds and converting thousands of new comedy fans. We are especially excited to welcome back international acts who share in over 350 individual shows across five huge weeks.”
Brisbane Powerhouse once again plays the role of the home of Brisbane Comedy Festival featuring six stages. Plus, the dazzling new alfresco riverside venue The Pleasuredome joins the venue line-up.
Fortitude Music Hall hosts the Opening Gala, and The Tivoli returns as a satellite festival hub.
Brisbane Comedy Festival is on from 28 April-28 May.
