There’s a new home for laughter in Brisbane’s West End: Welcome to Brisbane Comedy Cellar.
This brand-new, intimate comedy venue is opening beneath The Raven Hotel in West End, reminding Brisbanites that laughter really is better when shared.
Shows have already launched in January, and the venue will officially celebrate its arrival in late February. The launch will be marked with a Comedy Gala, bringing together a huge line-up and hosted by Matt Okine, featuring Harley Breen, Dusty Rich, and Ting Lim.
Brisbane Comedy Cellar will operate Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights, as well as every second Saturday. It offers a mix of experimental sessions, themed comedy nights, and premium weekend showcases, delivering an up-close comedy club experience inspired by the New York Comedy Cellar.
“I wanted to change the culture of what a comedy club can be in Brisbane,” Promoter and Club Curator Tony Lathouras says. “It’s a place where comedy and live music can hang out, and where the experience feels exciting and premium but never pretentious. The idea was to build something I’d actually want to go and see, and something audiences can’t get anywhere else.”
“Wednesdays are Cellar Sessions for pro comedians working on new material – you’re not going to see Garry trying comedy for the first time here. Thursdays are themed chaos with shows like The Dating Game, The Big Game Show Show and Crowd Control. Fridays and Saturdays are top-shelf showcases with a live band, which completely elevates the experience, it’s bananas. And once a month there’s jazz. Yeah, it’s not comedy, but Brisbane Comedy Cellar isn’t your average comedy club.”
Proceeds from the Launch Gala will support Grow The Music, a social enterprise delivering music workshops and events, designed specifically for Indigenous and migrant communities.
“Comedy and music both have a powerful ability to build confidence, connection and joy,” Lathouras continues. “Supporting Grow The Music reflects what we’re building, a creative space that fosters community and brings people together through shared experiences.”
Brisbane Comedy Cellar’s official launch week is 22-28 February. The Brisbane Comedy Cellar Launch Gala takes place on 28 February.
