L-R: Laura Lexx, Oliver Bowler, Jimmy McGhie

Iconic, loved Adelaide Fringe comedy show 'Best Of The Edinburgh Fest' returns to the festival for more unbeatable, world-class laughs.

There are three hilarious acts per show. This year, audiences can expect to see the self-deprecating and lovable Jimmy McGhie (UK), the delightful and bubbly Laura Lexx (UK), and natural performer Oliver Bowler (UK).

Here, ahead of the show and in the spirit of embracing the local offerings, UK funnyman Jimmy McGhie lists his top five things to do while he's in Adelaide.

One

The Central Market. This one is pretty obvious so more specifically ‘be English in the Central Market’. As soon as you drop a touch of the queens, the food, and beverage brigade swarm around you to sell you on how organic and authentic their produce is. Utterly charming, eye-wateringly expensive and a great way to lose three hours of your day.

Two

The Market Street Cafe. Just over the road you’ll find one of the world’s superior brunch spots. I say this with authority having taken brunch in many places across the globe. In case you are curious my order is always the same, poached eggs on sourdough with freshly made room temperature smashed avocado, crumbled feta, a light sprinkle of chilli flakes served with a side of very crispy bacon. Lloyd Langford, the former welsh comedian and current expatriate celebrity, would get very miffed with me as I would demand we eat here at every opportunity. Whilst he may be an advocate for variation, I was humbled by the sheer amount of feta they seemed willing to crumble over my eager plate. I salute you.

Three

The Hills. A dear friend of mine likes to frog march me up and down the Adelaide hills in an activity she likes to call ‘a walk’. I however, deem it ’survival hiking’. Take water, a headscarf and a working cell phone.

Four

Unley Swimming Centre. In London, swimming is a stressful and frustrating experience usually resulting in severe chlorine poisoning and a lingering hatred of children and pensioners. Unley is an oasis of tranquility where the lifeguards manage traffic so effectively you never have to shake a fist at a stranger for clogging up the medium lane with their insipid doggy paddle. After my exhausting eight full lengths, I stretch out like a lizard in the sunshine on their nicely kept grass. I salute you too.

Five

The Adelaide Oval. I like to sit in the stands as one of nine people watching Sheffield Shield matches on a weekday. I take the time to reflect on the humiliating 2015 World Cup, where England were knocked out in the group stages by Bangladesh. I watched this slow crash live in these very hallowed stands and it gives me pause to remember that life is a circus of misery and nothing good ever happens. (See '25/26 Ashes.)

'Best Of The Edinburgh Fest' plays The Factory at The Garden Of Unearthly Delights and The Paragon at The Garden Of Unearthly Delights (Adelaide Fringe) 13 February-22 March.
