Bec Melrose Is Inspired By Absolute Geese

Award-winning writer and comedian Bec Melrose makes her solo debut at Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) in 'Absolute Goose’.

In 'Absolute Goose', the Sydney-based talent celebrates all who aren't afraid to be silly and enjoy life, the absolute geese who always seem to come out the other side without a feather out of place.

“It's a celebration of people who seem to go through life without letting much get to them. I've gravitated towards the 'absolute geese' in my own life in the last few years and I think I've learned a few of their secrets!”

Bec thought she had a pretty solid concept for a show back in 2020 – but as it turns out, the world had the same idea.

“I wrote a show to take on tour in 2020 that was all about how office culture needed a shake up,” Bec describes. “If you've been outside lately you might have noticed that happened without my advocacy, so I had to scrap it and write a new show! There's almost a nostalgia now for all the things that were making us miserable about office work.”

The Sydney-based comedian has earned her fair share of accolades, and also writes for shows on ABC like 'Gruen', 'Question Everything' and 'The Yearly'. 'Absolute Goose' comes after Bec's sell-out debut of 'Big Dolphin Energy'.

“I love spending time in Melbourne,” Bec says, as she looks ahead to MICF. “It's such a beautiful city. One of my favourite things to do is get coffee from 7-Eleven. There' s so much on at the festival so I can't wait to get out and see shows!”

Bec Melrose plays The Victoria Hotel (Melbourne International Comedy Festival) 31 March-24 April.
