Amanda Jane Pritchard Unleashes Her Inner Karen For MICF

'The Unbearable Righteousness Of Being Karen'
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival will play host to musical sketch comedy 'The Unbearable Righteousness Of Being Karen', starring musical comedy dynamo Amanda Jane Pritchard.

Here taking on the role of Karen Sharon Pritchard, Amanda will embrace her inner cashed-up bogan alongside a handful of acting talents. To complete the picture, the show will take place at none other than international phenomenon, Karen's Diner.

“It’s a decadent mix of sketch comedy, songs, improv, audience participation and of course the full Karen’s Diner experience,” Amanda Jane Pritchard says.

“This is my third comedy festival but the first as Karen Sharon Pritchard – I’ve been honing my Karen at the diner and I think audiences are going to love (and hate) her.”

'The Unbearable Righteousness' follows Karen post-COVID as she runs her diner, complains about everything, navigates an unfaithful husband and figures out how to deal with Gen Z employees.

“I’m so excited to work with the ensemble cast, Jesse Jackson, Patrick Hamilton and Dana Singer who are all natural comedic talents,” Amanda says. “The show is a celebration of sassy Karens and women everywhere. You can grab a burger and a drink with your ticket – just be prepared for one of us to nick your chips.”

As for the show's location, well – there's no where more suitable.

“'Karen's Diner' is the perfect place for the show, I mean it’s KAREN’s Diner after all. The diners are now all over the world so my plan is to take the show over to Edinburgh Fringe.”

Audiences will recognise the music throughout the show too, but that comes with its own Karen-ised twist as well.

“The show includes familiar songs that I completely corrupt for comedy. Karen's also got some snazzy leggings to dazzle all her guests!”

'The Unbearable Righteousness Of Being Karen' plays Karen's Diner (Melbourne International Comedy Festival) Tue-Wed-Thursdays from 28 March-20 April.
