Comedic superstar Adam Hills is returning to the homeland from the UK for his first national tour in three years, Happyism.
Happyism will debut at the iconic Princess Theatre during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and then head to all other major capital cities. Hills had a massive 2012 that included hosting The Last Leg, a unique review of the coverage of the 2012 Paralympic Games. After the success of The Last Leg, Hills hosted Channel 4's alternative to the Queen's Christmas Day message at the end of the last year – a first for an Australian.
Although he's become a permanent fixture on Australian and UK television, Hills's heart still lies with stand-up. “All I ever wanted to be was a stand-up comic,” he says. “It's time to dust off the notebook, start panicking, and get back out on tour again. Doing what makes me happy. I'm happiest when I'm on stage doing stand-up comedy. I grew up idolising Billy Connolly, Bill Cosby and Robin Williams.”
Hills often tours the UK, Ireland and Europe and of course, the prestigious Montreal Just For Laughs Festival. The Sydney-born comic is always a favourite at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the biggest comedy festival in the world, where he seemingly always lands great reviews. (For instance, The Guardian wrote: “Hills delivers stand up so effortlessly brilliant you wonder why some comedians even get out of bed.”)
