5 Ways To Have An Iconic Brisbane Day, With Sophie And Thien Of Brisbaret

'Brisbaret'
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A line-up of some of the best Bris-lebrities in entertainment is coming to Brisbane Comedy Festival, in 'Brisbaret’.

It's all things silly, topical and ridiculous, created and hosted by musical comedian Sophie Banister ('Women In Voice', 'All Day Breakfast') and featuring the musical stylings of Thien Pham ('All Day Breakfast').

'Brisbaret' is a curated night of variety and a smorgasbord of local talents in stand-up comedy, dance, drag, sketch and burlesque. You never know who you might come across in this star-studded line-up, filled with frequenters of the mangroved banks of the brown snake (Brisbane River).

As arguably the most passionate admirers of the river city, Sophie and Thien present the 'Brisbaret' guide to an iconic day in Brisbane.

One

And I said, what about breakfast in Paddington? Yes, parodying songs is a part of the start to your iconic day! There are so many great cafes in Paddington but our favourite would be Naïm. If you can’t get in there, you can always enjoy a little op shop, grab some locally-made products and enjoy the scenery of fluffy dogs and city professionals on a cycling kick. The true inner city Brisbane experience.

Two

Enjoy the city’s top park, Roma Street Parklands. We’re not gonna hear it from the New Farm die hards. Roma Street is the G.O.A.T! Water fountains, mini rainforest, the spectacle garden featuring local flora and the place is filled to the brim with our lizard overlords. Enjoy a stroll and a picnic plus the oodles of frequently programmed local entertainment.

Three

Drinks by the brown snake. Okay fine, we will get on the bandwagon – Howard Smith Wharves is the perfect place for you to kick back and let the essence of Powderfinger wash over you. We also have a soft spot for Riverbar – wherever you go, grab that Aperol Spritz and enjoy the views that Thelma Plum so aptly called ‘a work of art'.

Four

'Brisbaret'. Who us? Well if we must. 'Brisbaret' is the variety night to get your fix of the finest Brislebrities (Brisbane celebrities) performing their best work! With a mix of comedy, music, dance and chaos, you’ll experience a local cultural feast that will leave you saying ‘Melbourne who?'

Five

Dessert at Pancake Manor. It’s a local fact that the best evenings in Brisbane finish at Pancake Manor. You must end your iconic day here, whether you wrap up at 9pm or 4am, this iconic establishment will be there for you.

'Brisbaret' plays Brisbane Powerhouse (Brisbane Comedy Festival) 5 May.
