5 Favourite Fan Moments At WrestleBrainia

WrestleBrainia
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Talented comedians and wrestlers will join forces for one of Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s (MICF) veteran shows – 'WrestleBrainia’.

It's a show unlike any other, filled with games and humour including ‘Know Your Role’, ‘Man of 1004 Holds’ and ‘Lyrical Madness’. The show offers a fun take on professional wrestling, as well as its fandom and culture.

Audiences are invited to be involved, get a bit loud and a bit silly, because wrestling is fun! Previously, names like Broden Kelly (Aunty Donna), Robbie Eagles (NJPW), Toni Storm (AEW) and Grayson Waller (WWE) have joined the show. Audiences can expect a line-up highlighting some of the greats of Australia's wrestling scene at MICF.

The 'WrestleBrainia' team have asked one of their favourite fans, Roger, to list their top five 'WrestleBrainia' moments ahead of the season at Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Check out Roger's action-packed list and get excited for 'WrestleBrainia' at MICF.

Five

Cannon brings the wood: (28/3/2021). Melbourne wrestling veteran, Carlo Cannon not only flexed his Lance Storm knowledge, but also was only able to tolerate so much from the flamboyant host of 'On The Turnbuckle' ('OTT') throughout the show. When Brent ‘Welchy’ Welch made the critical mistake of putting his hands on the big man, he found himself put through the conveniently placed table at the front of the stage. Welchy joined the illustrious club alongside Eric Bischoff and Machine Gun Kelly in going through a table after running their mouths off one too many times.

Four

Tosh Greenslade, you can go straight to hell!: (18/4/2021). With the 'OTT' crew banished to the audience, their hopes of retaining the most coveted prize in wrestling trivia history looked lost. With the support of the WrestleRock dynamic duo of Julian James and Chris Fresh, Team Tosh was able to hand the Bastard Brothers (Gore and Krackerjack) a rare defeat. The celebration was short-lived when the WrestleRock crew were stunned by their team captain revealing his allegiance to 'On The Turnbuckle' by revealing the distinctive 'OTT' shirt under his Jersey. As the biggest betrayal in wrestling since Nikki Bella turned on Brie to join Stephanie McMahon (it’s a WWE thing) played out, an outraged Krackerjack destroyed the prestigious 'WrestleBrainia' trophy while his Brother Gore took out Lyle and Welchy with ease.

Three

Timing is EVERYTHING: (11/12/21). At a special all ages 'WrestleBrainia' during Oz Comic-Con, the tag team championship duo of Misspent Youth (Murdoch and Aysha) go head-to-head in an entertaining battle to prove who is the Shawn and who is the Marty within the duo. All was going well, until the expert topic round. In what can only be seen as ironic timing, Aysha’s expert topic of Jeff Hardy came days after The Charismatic Enigma was sent home from a WWE house show. This made answering the question “Which brand is Jeff Hardy currently on?” quite difficult!

Two

The first renegade: (24/4/22). Rumours of his death were greatly exaggerated, as 'Loverboy' Lochy Hendricks made his return to the 'WrestleBrainia' arena. The flamboyant first announced 'Renegades Of Wrestling' star showed a Lanny Poffo level of genius in his display of wrestling knowledge. Leading his team to a clear victory, the only recourse that his deathmatch opponent in Callen Butcher had, was to instigate a brawl through the crowd to end the show.

One

The greatest 'WrestleBrainia' EVER!: (8/10/22). PAX 2022 saw the greatest 'WrestleBrainia' EVER take place in The Wombat Theatre! Team Fresh took on Team Murdoch (with 'OTT'’s 'Welchy' and the man that delivered the trophy to his team a year ago, Tosh Greenslade) in an epic video games-inspired show. This battle of generations went down to the wire as Chris Fresh flexed his retro game knowledge, while Murdoch showed his disdain for all video games, making him the most hated man at the biggest video game expo in the southern hemisphere. As a real treat for the crowd, special guest referee comedian John Robinson kept both teams in check. A tight contest came down to the last question, however, just as Chris Fresh came to deliver the winning answer, Murdoch’s partner Aysha came from no where and hit Fresh with a devastating low blow allowing 'OTT'’s Welchy to keep hold of the coveted trophy.

'WrestleBrainia' plays The Catfish Bar (Melbourne International Comedy Festival) 2,16,23 April.
