Rising comedy star Billy D'Arcy brings an all-new hour of material, 'Anxiously Arrogant', to Melbourne.
In 2019 he toured 'Background Lad' around the country, and 'Anxiously Arrogant' explores feeling like either a zero or a ten, and nothing in between. The show features a bunch of stories where Billy is either seriously winning or seriously losing. Also last year, the comedian launched 'Get Around Me', a podcast which garnered a huge following, and he's a regular at Sydney Comedy Store.
It's Billy's first time in Melbourne specifically for the Comedy Festival and to mark the occasion of this, his second show, he lists his top three favourite things about the city.
One
Firstly Melbourne, you guys actually go to stuff. It’s beautiful. There will be 80,000 people at a round 13 AFL game for no reason in particular. If they held the Grand Final in Brisbane no-one would go because they wouldn’t want to pay for parking. And you don’t just go out on the weekends like it's 1935 either. Even if it's a Tuesday you’re out and about and I love it.
Two
Secondly your rivalry with Sydney and your disdain for the people that live there is honestly to be admired. Mostly because no-one in Sydney even knows this feud exists. I’m from Sydney myself and it was only when I started visiting your fine city I found out we were actually enemies. I seriously must tip my hat! To keep a feud going when it is completely one-sided takes a lot more effort than if the other party is hating you back. I’m not sure if it's because we don’t really get around AFL or our beaches are nicer but please, don’t let our confusion take away from your hatred.
Three
Finally the thing I love about Melbourne maybe the most is that you cling to the title of ‘the most liveable city in the world’. If this is not a made up, irrelevant title then I don’t know what is. But you talk about it enough to the point where some of us actually think it's real. I personally believe any functioning city in the western world is already pretty liveable. How exciting for me that I get to live in the most liveable place for a whole month! I look forward to the ease of existence only your city can provide. So come and see my show so you can tell me why Sydney is a non-liveable wasteland and why we are in fact, dogs.
Billy D'Arcy plays AIM Melbourne Campus 25 March-19 April.
