The smash-hit show 'You Know We Belong Together' returns for an encore season at Perth's Heath Ledger Theatre, following its sell-out 2018 premiere.
The uplifting performance, written by and starring Julia Hales, is a first-person account of her experiences as an actor, daughter, and person with Down syndrome. And, if you hadn't guessed from the title, the long-running beachside soap opera 'Home And Away', forms an integral part of the show. Appearing in the show is superfan Julia's lifelong dream. She even wrote herself a character (Claire, Alf's grand-daughter).
'You Know We Belong Together' is dedicated to Julia's late mother, who encouraged her daughter to fulfil her ambitions – including taking up residence in Summer Bay.
Together with the ensemble cast, Julia has devised a production that employs song, dance, and multimedia to create a joyful celebration of community spirit.
Artistic Director Clare Watson says, “While this is a play about Down syndrome that calls with no uncertainty for inclusivity, understanding, and better representation of disability on screen, it is also a completely universal story about love, about loss, about family, and about friendships.”
