A part-time Woolworths night fill employee from South Australia has received praise from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan for his stunning poster design.
Lockleys resident Timothy Harvey won a competition to design a poster for the DVD release of the critically acclaimed series' final season. He was awarded first place over hundreds of entries, with 11 Aussie artists shortlisted and submitted to Gilligan to judge.
Gilligan said of the competition: "I had a really hard time choosing the winning entry. I was blown away by the talent and creativity of our Australian fans! [Harvey's] winning design stood out to me: it was original, it was arresting, and it captured the spirit of our show."
Harvey, a recent arts and media graduate, toyed with a more traditional design before he decided not to tread lightly. "I've put together a fair few movie posters and images over the years as a hobby, so I initially went for a more classical style like a movie poster, with Jessie and Walt's heads split by the handle of a shovel... but I couldn't get it to work naturally.
"In the end I decided to go with something simple, bold, intimidating and intense to represent previous Breaking Bad posters. My intention was for the text 'All Bad Things Must Come To An End' to be hard to read, as it's a reflection on the final series itself — hard to guess and read what will happen next!"

Harvey's poster design can be viewed nationally in JB HiFi stores from November 28, the day of release for Breaking Bad The Final Season and Breaking Bad The Complete Series on Blu-Ray and DVD.
For his troubles, Harvey takes home a $1,000 JB HiFi voucher, a Breaking Bad The Complete Series Deluxe Gift Set Blu-Ray, a Sony 3D Blu-Ray player with built-in WiFi, and a framed copy of his poster.

The creators of the ten runner-up posters also received the Breaking Bad The Complete Series box set on DVD or Blu-Ray. Half of them were designed by the same talent, Stephen De Jager, who we assume has a storage unit filled with Breaking Bad box sets now. He's in the empire business.
