Willoughby Symphony Orchestra (WSO) in Sydney will present nine concerts in 2025, encompassing classical masterpieces, heart-stopping film presentations, and festive celebration.
Symphonic Sydney audiences will be delighted with the offering – the subscription series begins with Beethoven’s ‘Triple’ concerto, performed by Estivo Trio. WSO will navigate exciting landscapes along the Moldau river, as legendary flautist Jane Rutter joins the orchestra for a stunning version of Vaughan Williams’ ‘Lark Ascending’.
Australian Jonathan Ramsay, who has recently been appointed principal trombonist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform a concerto by Nino Rota, best known for composing the music of ‘The Godfather’. Plus, star Australian cellist Julian Smiles will perform one of the most sublime cello concertos in the repertoire by Peteris Vasks.
The subscription series also includes an interpretation of Mahler’s glorious ‘First Symphony’.
Willughby Symphony Choir will join WSO for a handful of riveting collaborations. . . None more inspiring than Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
In line with WSO’s mission to make music accessible to all, the 2025 offering has something for even those who aren’t huge fans of classical music – ‘A Night At The Oscars’ is the perfect way to celebrate iconic film scores from Hollywood blockbusters, featuring German violinist Rosa Donata Milton. Audiences can expect music from ‘Schindler’s List’, ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’, and ‘Cinema Paradiso’.
In time for Christmas, there will be a special ‘Spirit Of Christmas’ concert, presenting cherished carols and festive surprises for all.
