Throughout April and May the SA Writers Centre has a line-up of exciting workshops and a festival for writers of all kinds to push themselves to their writing limits.
With a wide range of professional development workshops on their calendar, the Writers Centre will be welcoming writers to explore new skills, enhance their current skills or refine the basics.
For writers aspiring to branch out into the worlds of speculative fiction, such as: fantasy, sci-fi, horror and other-worldly writing, the 'Spec Fic And Fantasy Writers Fest' should be a date to remember (7 May). Following the success of last year's genre-based festivals, the Writers Centre will host exclusive workshops with published fantasy authors including Gillian Rubinstein, Sean Williams and Ben Chandler plus many more. Through the weekend event, attendees will also enjoy networking events, reading performances and industry panel involvement.
Non-fiction writers and lovers will want to join in on 'Weaving Fact Into Creative Non-Fiction' hosted by Emma McEwin. The workshop will explore the creativity of creative non-fiction, and help writers with strategies to intertwine factual information without it seeming out of place.
If those events don't entice you, be sure to check out the other creative fiction and non-fiction workshops including:
– 'Five Stars - Book Reviewing': Join respected critic Kerryn Goldsworthy to pick up the tricks of the critiquing trade. Her 35 years in the industry will help you gather the tools, techniques and tips needed in order to write great book reviews, and learn to transfer these skills into reviewing various art forms.
– 'Twelve': Push yourself to your absolute creative limits in an all-in twelve-hour session of non-stop writing for distracted and time-poor writers.
– 'Perfect Grammar': If you're looking to improve your grammar skills, be it for creative pursuits or business communication, Kevin O'Brien's workshop will help make your writing more professional, readable and inevitably publishable.
– 'Short Stories 101': This dynamic workshop aims to help creative writers bring their stories to light, getting those ideas out of your head and onto paper to develop them into masterpieces.
Post-May is filling up quickly too, with 'How To Edit Non Fiction' with Kevin O'Brien 19 June, 'The Creative Groove' and 'Meaningful Journaling' with Walter Mason 25 & 26 June respectively, and 'Advanced Short Story' with A.S. Patric 6 August. Stay tuned for more intellectually delicious workshops throughout the year.
All workshops will be held at the SA Writers Centre.
