As Perth eased into a moment of cooler weather, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) prepared to launch its first performance of the season, with 'Toy Story In Concert' at the Riverside Theatre.

As audiences enjoyed picture walls and performers dressed as 'Toy Story' characters, they soon filed into the theatre as the Symphony was performing light music.

WASO truly knows how to conduct the senses of an audience – amplifying the space. At first glance, it may seem that the orchestra would distract from the movie playing above them, but in essence they elevated the immersive quality.

It was just as exciting to watch the musicians, as they interacted and played off each other’s energy, as the audience erupted in laughter, cheers, and applause.

“I don’t want to watch a movie any other way …” an audience member said, as the orchestra took their final bows.

Although the production may inspire imagination in young audiences, it transported adults back to their childhoods, sparking conversations about the nostalgia that the West Australian Symphony Orchestra delivered.
