The West Australian Symphony Orchestra returns for a second week in a row to enthral audiences of Perth with the amazing suite of musicians.

Ironically during the opening train scene, the performance was momentarily derailed due to technical difficulties, but it wasn’t long until Jessica Gethin, with a sweep of her baton, returned the orchestra into the resounding notes of ‘Skyfall’ by Adele.

Watching the orchestra breathe together as one entity during this action-packed movie was a sight to behold. Gethin’s conducting was rhythmic and performative, matched in the strides of violin bows, and the rumble of percussion. Of note was the score in its entirety, which featured percussion musicians utilising an arsenal of 40 different instruments during the entire performance.

“The most entertaining part of this evening will be watching the percussionists move from one end of the stage to the next … in fact, I will be watching this myself.” Gethin said with a wry smile.

It truly is an awesome sight to watch the symphony replicate the score of a film, whether you are an avid music lover, or a cinephile, making a WASO In Concert performance part of your annual bucket list is a must.
