In 2025, West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) explore a ‘New World’ of music, performed in Perth’s most iconic venues.
WASO has created new ways to serenade the city as redevelopments get underway for Perth Concert Hall. Next year, audiences will experience five new, distinct series, as well as a host of classical and contemporary special events. It’s time to choose your own adventure!
Winthrop Hall’s majestic architecture and superb acoustics provide the perfect setting, for evenings of musical brilliance as part of the MACA Symphonic Series. Plus, daytime concertgoers can enjoy a tailored experience in the Heath Ledger Theatre, for the Matinee Symphony Series, and The Baroque Series sees some of Australia’s leading baroque players perform music from the era in His Majesty’s Theatre.
The talents of WASO’s own musicians are on full display, in the intimate Chamber Series at Government House Ballroom. . . And those wanting to push the sonic envelope can immerse themselves in music at the Underground Series.
Season highlights include Beethoven’s Symphony No.5, and a week-long celebration featuring all five of the composer’s acclaimed Piano Concertos, Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, Dvořák’s Symphony No.9 ‘From The New World’, and many more.
A number of talented conductors and guest artists will be welcomed throughout the year too. Conductors include Edward Gardner, Satu Vänskä, and Sam Weller making their WASO debuts, plus audience favourites Nicholas Buc, Shaun-Lee Chen, Umberto Clerici, Vasily Petrenko and Otto Tausk.
Guest soloists include pianists Lukáš Vondráček and Alexander Gavrylyuk; violinists Simone Lamsma and Satu Vänskä; cellists Li-Wei Qin and Umberto Clerici; and vocal soloists from across the country.
Some of the world premiere commissions in 2025 include James Ledger’s ‘Camera abscura’, Andrew Schultz’s Symphony No.4, and Paul Stanhope’s ‘Mahāsāgar’. There’ll be new works from Melody Eötvös and WASO Composer in Residence Olivia Davies too. Sahil Sidhu will compose a new work for family concert ‘Classic Adventures: Witches & Wizards’, with WASO Associate Conductor Jen Winley at the helm.
WASO will perform some of the world’s greatest film soundtracks once again for the WASO At The Movies series. . . Including ‘Jurassic Park’ as never seen before. There’ll also be music from John Williams classics like ‘E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial’, Harry Potter’, ‘Indiana Jones’ and more.
