Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

From the creators of the award-winning, internationally-travelled show 'Dizney In Drag: Once Upon A Parody', comes 'VILLAINS: A Dizney In Drag Parody’, playing as part of Adelaide Fringe.

Presenters The Hairy Godmothers are a diverse group of local Perth performers and creators, passionate about bringing topical subjects to the foreground, through comedy and cabaret. In 'VILLAINS', nostalgic narratives are rewritten to capture what lies beneath the surface.

“Dark, edgy and full of bite, 'VILLAINS' takes our favourite antagonists out of the dark depths and puts them centre stage. We love performing at the Adelaide Fringe, as the second biggest Fringe Festival in the world, it brings together a cornucopia of shows and artists,” Performer/The Hairy Godmothers Co-Director Ashley Nissen says. “We are stoked to be bringing 'VILLAINS' to the Moa at Gluttony.”

What could be more devilishly delicious and tantalisingly twisted, than a vivacious vaudeville of villains in drag?! It's a nostalgic musical theatre comedy, with live singing, audience interactions and bright costumes.

Performer and The Hairy Godmothers Co-Director Owen Merriman says the love for the performances goes beyond the cast and into the crowd, and the relationship between the two is a sacred one.

"We’ve had great success with our previous productions, including taking two of them ('Dizney in Drag: Once Upon A Parody' and 'WET') around Australia, UK and Europe in 2023,” Owen says. “We love what we do and are very grateful that our audiences love it too. The arts is a special place where we can connect with people through entertainment, so we hope the audiences resonate with the new show. We think they will!"

'VILLAINS: A Dizney In Drag Parody' is full of surprises, playing on well-known villain tropes and giving the villains their time to shine.

"So many people loved the original 'Dizney In Drag: Once Upon A Parody' story of following a hero journey to find one true love, but we wanted to spice it up a bit. We love to hate the villains in a story so we thought, why not make a whole story about the villains' side of the story?” Performer/The Hairy Godmothers Co-Director Jae West adds. “There’s so many new and fun characters to play with as well. What’s not to love?!"

'VILLAINS' plays The Moa at Gluttony - Rymill Park (Adelaide Fringe) 27 February-16 March.
