Velvet Rewired Brisbane Review @ Wynnum Fringe 2022

Sexy, exhilarating, and seamless, 'Velvet Rewired' awed and delighted audiences at Wynnum Fringe Festival on Saturday night (19 November).

The return of the sparkling music, dance, and circus extravaganza to Australian stages this year promised to bring an even bigger and better show than the one that caused a sensation when it debuted in 2015. A promise which was certainly honoured and demonstrated that when it comes to this musical spectacle, all that glitters is indeed gold.

'Velvet Rewired' continued the story of a young man on his path to self-discovery as he returns to the club seeking redemption. Led by the ever-fabulous Marcia Hines, with a cast of exceptionally talented performers whose exuberance and energy seemed beyond the scope of human possibility, 'Velvet Rewired' delivered a high-pace, high energy and (when it came to the jaw-dropping circus acts) high stakes homage to the dizzying, dazzling disco era.

Its scintillating mix of cabaret, circus, song and dance to feel-good anthems like 'It’s Raining Men' (The Weather Girls), 'Ain’t Nobody' (Chaka Khan and Rufus) and an achingly gorgeous slow version of 'Boogie Wonderland' (Earth, Wind and Fire) was entirely infectious and it’s hard to imagine that anyone would have left the Spiegeltent without a solid dose of disco fever.

'Velvet Rewired' was entertainment at its best. It shocked, delighted, surprised, and impressed at every turn.
