“Minton Farm is a non-profit animal rescue and home to 300+ injured, sick and orphaned Australian animals, thanks to owner and manager Bev Langley and with the help of volunteers. The animals are brought in by the community, councils, vets, Adelaide Zoo and Cleland Wildlife Park. The aim of the rescue is to rehabilitate the wildlife and return them home if they are fit, otherwise they are taken into permanent care at the centre.

I started volunteering at Minton Farm in 2013, and stayed there for over two years. I loved working there, you meet some great people with the same compassion and desire to help, and you also get to work with some incredible wildlife. I was brought up by animal lovers. My memories growing up are of my dad bringing home injured birds and lizards and nursing them back to health. As a kid, that was my normal, so now I try to teach and show the same care for our beautiful wildlife. That is what inspired me to do this exhibition. I loved the concept of people buying artwork and, in turn, am directly supporting and donating to Minton Farm. Firstly, I came to Bev with the idea, then I began testing the waters with a few artists and immediately I got positive responses. Being my first time curating an exhibition (hopefully first of many), I feel very lucky to have a lot of support on this event. People have this natural response to helping the animals.

Minton Farm solely relies on donations, fundraisers and their annual garage sale to run, which cost up to $500 a week. This includes electricity, water, medications, formulas, vet supplies and the list goes on. The money raised from 'Untamed' will go toward a new storage room to house the hospital materials and animal food.

I have been asked why only 50% of the artwork sales will be donated to Minton Farm, which is a fair enough question. But as an artist and being surrounded by so many, I understand the struggle. We are constantly thrown the word ‘exposure’ and expected to give our art for free. People don’t quite understand the levels of work that go into any kind of artwork, the planning, materials and the time spent we generally don’t get back what is deserved. I wanted to make it fair for the creators, I hope people can respect and understand that. The purpose of 'Untamed' is to not only support our wildlife, but to celebrate South Australian talents.”
