Among the night life of Fortitude Valley 'Underground Ballads' will share the thrilling story of when a group of friends meet in a Latin bar, and the catastrophe that occurs.
In a time when the region was fraught with political unrest, the group are in the midst of plotting their own political upheaval, when an unexpected twist throws a stranger into the mix.
Audiences will witness what has been labelled 'a twisted trust game' as the group fight for survival, unveiling the inner fears of each group member. They must face these fears and let their passion drive them, causing the chaotic and unimaginable turn of events that ensues.
Directed by Colombian actor and playwright, Sebastian Roncallo R., the Australian theatre company formed in 2011 to provide a creative gateway for international students to express themselves through performance art and theatre. Though as they continue to expand, the company now welcomes both students and working artists to collaborate and immerse themselves in their diverse backgrounds.
Described as a realistic reflection of our society, 'Underground Ballads' follows the characters as their unforeseeable situation morphs and transforms their personalities as the night unfolds. When the stranger enters, the meeting quickly goes sour, and the distrust of the stranger, or perhaps of each other, results in the sabotage of the group's secretive plans.
'Underground Ballads' performs Club XOXO 8, 12 & 15 May as part of Anywhere Festival which runs 5-21 May.
