Your favourite Danish royals, Prince Frederik and Princess Mary, will visit Sydney as part of the Opera House's 40th birthday celebrations in October.
The visit from the photogenic couple is just the tip of the Opera House's anniversary iceberg, which will include a special concert held in the forecourt on October 27, recreating the one held to open the event 40 years ago. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 will be performed by the Sydney Symphony, conducted by Miguel Harth-Bedoya and featuring soloists from Opera Australia and the Sydney Philharmonica Choirs.
The Opera House will get its own cake and song, as befits a birthday party, at an 'Open Door' event on October 20 (marking the day the Opera House was officially opened in 1973) that will allow visitors to wander all over the Concert Hall and Joan Sutherland Theate 'til their heart's content.
Perhaps more relevant to the royal couple is Danish Rooms, a free exhibition in the Western Foyers spotlighting Danish design's contemporary legacy from October 25 to November 11.
Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner announced the events this morning, afer throwing $13.7 million the Opera House's way in Tuesday's State Budget.
